What I want to achieve:

-          Analysis of possible reasons for students to evolve hate:

->Finding out which the true reasons are

->Finding out which ones are imagination

-          Analysing why people believe in the “wrong” reasons

-          Analyzing what people could do to prevent rampages and other violent activities of the youth

-          Giving tips and advice for parents and people in the nearer environment of children to make them have a good childhood.

How I want to achieve that:

-          Study the material we received

-          Looking  for panels in the internet, what different groups of people say towards the reasons and which causes they deny and why.  Because in Germany there is a big discussion whether violent games are to blame or if it’s a fault of the government and so on. Everyone wants to find a scapegoat for the happenings in Winnenden or the many other places, but no one wants to confess their fault.

-          Examine self-help books from the library, because the contemporary trend towards the violence in America as well as in Germany. I want to prove if they are real help or if they just try to distract from the real reasons.

How I want to connect it to the film:

-          Proving the reasons presented in the film.

-          Connecting the situation of the mother of that 6 years-old boy who killed another girl. And try to examine, how her situation is connected to the reasons I found out before.

What my portfolio should look like:

-          Series of reasons for children to go on rampage

-          Telling the truth about the wrong conclusion

-          Giving advice for preventing those terrible things like “The Columbine-Shooting”.

Please read the wikipedia entry and point out the significance of the shooting for the nation. Search the net for information on important people`s reactions, e.g. the President or Michael Moore.

The situation has a great significance because:

• The suspected person was legally able to carry the gun  concealed on his person due to recent changes in Arizona law

• After the offender shot at the representative, he shoot many people, just because they were standing near

• The witnesses let the offender go down; they all worked together

• People, like a doctor and a nurse tried to rescue the wounded victims

• The target of the attack Gabrielle Gifford’s has had a lot of luck so that the chance for her to survive without any problems, is high

I was in London for my course trip and it was amazing. I’ve never seen such a frantic  and chaotic, but also so friendly and lovely place in the world.

It’s just like you’re thrown into another world.

The people there are really friendly, like they wish you a nice day and good luck, when asking for the way. But it is very chaotic and crowded everywhere, not to be compared with little L. or for example Oldenb. Maybe this is why everyone tries to attract attention, with extraordinary cloth etc.

BUT I LOVE LONDON!

Just because it was a great experience for me, to see this completely different mentality.

Reflexion

In the past year of the Seminar Subject we worked on the basics of writing a research paper.  With the film “The History Boys” as basis, we talked about education and learning, as well as with interviews of Manfred Spitzer and other psychologists. In order to be well-prepared for the research paper next period, we developed skills and rules for such a work and used the new abilities in a mini research paper, which we’ve done in class.

Important for me where above all the lessons filled with interviews with Manfred Spitzer, Elsbeth Stern and the other documentations about learning and the school-system in Germany. I thought about many of their points later on, while learning for test papers.

Nevertheless, the lessons about the research paper where also very important for me, because I took it for granted that the research paper is quite important – not just for our A-Level-Exam, also for the time in university. For me it was very useful to see all the rules by using examples. I, as a learner, take lessons better, when I have examples instead of just having rules.

My target of learning how to write a research paper is fulfilled in that direction that I know the basic facts and formularies. But I want to improve a couple of things for the “real” research paper, like correcting the time-table and having more time for everything. This research paper showed me that it’s quite hard to manage to write concentrated on it, besides all the other schoolwork and private obligations. Therefore, I need a better time management for the next written assignments.

Furthermore I found it crucial to use my language skills in class. Speaking English means getting to know the language, hence I liked the style of speaking english in class, but also the bits of German where very nice, because we had the chance to link the two languages. For instance, I’ve made  notes in English for the german-spoken interview. That was a great experience!

Summing up it can be said that the preceding half year was nice and essential for my further education and career as a student!

The teacher criticises that Rita uses too much unobjective literature like a book of Harold Robbins (he’s criticised for not writing important literature). He wants  Rita to use other literature, in order to show reference to the examiners.

Rita misunderstood him because she doesn’t understand the difference between factual and not factual literature. She used literature that the teacher questions, but  she thinks that also “Pulp Fiction” is good literature she should read and could use for her essay.

The disagreement occurred in the first place, because Rita misunderstood the statement: “The Reference to other works will impress the examiners” from the beginning. There was no  exact definition for “works”. And Frank thought she knows what he meant.

• Media: Do the teachers work with media in general and if YES with wich?
• Is the school clean (playground, classrooms…)?
• Is there a connection (relationship) between teacher and student?
• Do the teachers things which are not to easy and not too challenging?
• What about the relationship between the teachers? Do they communicate?
• What about the relationship between parents and teachers?
• Is the material (schoolbooks, blackboards, OHP’s) working?
• How do the students react on the lessons (Are they doing homework? Are they working?)
• etc…

2. As a parent, how can you gather information about a school you might send your child to? How reliable are those sources?

First of all, there is a day to inform the estimate students and their parents. But I think this is not a reliable source because the teachers and students try to make the school quite good-looking. For example they put up posters etc.

More reliable is asking other students from that school.  For example in my village there are in every year some parents asking “What is that school like”, “Would you say my son /daughter would be happy there?” “What about the teachers?”…  These are more proofed because I as a student mustn’t lie, my job isn’t depending on the appearance of the school.

3. Consider the quality of your own school and try to come up with a profile.

I really like my school.

Most of the teachers are very skilled and competent and there are lots of actions I can come across with (for example all the AG’s and extra activities)

The playground and the canteen are quite nice. The food in the canteen is excellent (if you look at other canteens) and everyone is friendly.  If there’s a problem there’s always someone who helps you.

And, that’s the most important: I come home with the feeling that I’ve learned something – A good feeling!

Comment on the videos: We watched “Rhythm is it” in school. I liked how Royston Maldoom worked with the children. There were teenagers from Berlin, who’s parents split up etc. We wold say something like a “problem child”. But he told them to grow and be more self-confident. He’s quite a good educator, also if he wouldn’t call it this way!

Winter arrived! So, while the first snowflakes fall to the ground I would like to say something:
